A Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) group session is a 60 minute, trauma-informed, somatic practice designed for healing complex trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by restoring bodily agency. It utilizes invitational language, non-coercive movement, and focuses on internal sensations (interoception) rather than alignment or performance.
Key Elements of a TCTSY Trauma Sensitive Yoga Session Description:
Choice-Based & Invitational: Facilitators use language like "you might," "if you feel comfortable," or "there's an invitation to," allowing participants to choose their own movements, variations, or to remain in stillness.
No Hands-on Assists: Facilitators do not physically adjust participants, ensuring personal boundary safety.
Focus on Internal Experience: The goal is to notice sensations within the body ("interoception"), helping to reconnect with oneself, rather than focusing on the external appearance of a pose.
Shared Authentic Experience: The facilitator will practice along with the participants, emphasizing a collaborative, safe environment rather than a teacher-student hierarchy.
Participants are not asked to talk about their trauma or difficult experiences during the session.
Structure: Sessions typically include a grounding, gentle movement forms, and a resting period.
TCTSY Trauma Sensitive Yoga is recognized as an evidence-based, adjunctive treatment for trauma and is suitable for all, requiring no prior yoga experience.
Group sessions available in Brighton, MI.
Trauma Sensitive Yoga TCTSY group is planned for Thursdays, 6:30-7:30pm as soon once we have have enough individuals registered.
